SHERWOOD FOREST NATURE RESERVE

Edwinstowe, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, NG21 9HN

Steeped in myth and alive with natural beauty, Sherwood Forest Nature Reserve is an iconic destination in Nottinghamshire. This ancient woodland, once a royal hunting forest, is home to over 1,000 veteran oaks, many over 500 years old, including the famous Major Oak, believed to be nearly 1,000 years old.

There’s something for everyone: gentle woodland walks, wildlife spotting (look out for rare invertebrates, fungi, nightjar & tree pipits), and specially themed events and guided trails rooted in the legends of Robin Hood. The new Visitor Centre at Forest Corner, open April-October, offers a café with forest views, a shop, and info points to help you plan your time here. With wheelchair-friendly paths, family play areas, and plenty of space to breathe, Sherwood is perfect for families, photographers, students of nature—and anyone looking for a connection with the wild and the historical.
