Appleby Horse Fair is a long-standing annual event that brings together Gypsies and Travellers in the historic town of Appleby-in-Westmorland, located in Cumbria. The fair is traditionally held during the first week of June, officially running from Thursday through to the following Wednesday.
Although the event spans several days, it is widely regarded as being at its busiest and most vibrant over the weekend period. The main activities and largest gatherings typically take place on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, when the majority of visitors arrive. During these peak days, the town becomes a focal point for socialising, trading, and celebrating cultural traditions, with horses playing a central role in the fair’s identity.
