Rydal Cave is a striking old slate quarry cave perched on the north side of Loughrigg Fell, overlooking Rydal Water near Ambleside. The cave is accessible via woodland trails from White Moss car park, Pelter Bridge, or other nearby paths. At the entrance there’s a shallow pool where stepping stones help visitors cross into the cave; once inside, you’ll find echoing chambers and rugged rock formations.
Walking to Rydal Cave makes a lovely, free day-out: the paths offer peaceful scenery, lake views, and nature all around.
A torch is useful for exploring deeper into the cave, and sturdy footwear is advised as stones and pathways can be uneven.
