Forge Mill Needle Museum, located in Redditch, Worcestershire, offers a unique and immersive journey into one of the UK’s most unusual yet significant industries — needle and fishing tackle manufacturing. Housed in a restored 18th-century mill, the museum celebrates Redditch’s historic role as the global centre of needle production during the Industrial Revolution.
Visitors can explore original water-powered machinery, watch needle-making demonstrations, and engage with interactive displays that bring the process to life. The museum also highlights the harsh working conditions of Victorian factory life and features changing exhibitions, family activity trails, and beautiful riverside grounds ideal for a relaxing stroll or picnic.
Adjacent to the ruins of the medieval Bordesley Abbey, the museum offers an intriguing mix of industrial and monastic history in one site. A visit to Forge Mill Needle Museum is perfect for families, history lovers, and anyone curious about Britain’s rich manufacturing past.
Lovely place, family friendly & good little play area. No more than 3 or 4 hours worth but good for an afternoon! Well worth a trip!
Love this place. Great place to take children. They regularly run activity days and their park is fab. Museum is great, as well. Lovely staff.
A fascinating history of needle making in the Redditch area. Worth going on a day that the water wheel is working. A must visit attraction for lovers of industrial archeology.
