Step back in time on the Churnet Valley Railway, a preserved heritage line running through Staffordshire’s idyllic “Little Switzerland”. Based out of Kingsley & Froghall station, you can board vintage steam or historic diesel engines for journeys to Cheddleton, Consall, and, as of late 2024, all the way to Leek, marvelling at countryside views, riverbanks, and the valley’s ever-changing character.
Stations like Consall offer secluded charm (no road access), while Cheddleton acts as the main hub — featuring Victorian-era architecture, a restored booking office, artefact museum, engine sheds, plus accessible platforms and amenities. On select days the Railway runs special experiences: afternoon teas, dining trains, “Rail Ale Trail”, Santa trains, and even opportunities to go behind the scenes with driver experience courses. The charming Signals Tea Room, traditional gift shop and volunteer staff add to the welcoming atmosphere. Whether you love trains, enjoy scenic walks, or are looking for a relaxed family day out, Churnet Valley Railway delivers memories with every whistle.
