Dating from 1583 and set in its own grounds, the former home of the Lairds of Gala was recently opened as an interactive centre. Displays tell the story of the House, its inhabitants and the early growth of Galashiels. Particularly memorable are the painted ceiling (1635), painted wall (1988) and Thomas Clapperton Room. The Christopher Boyd Gallery hosts a wide variety of exhibitions and workshops. Attractive gardens with picnic area, cafe with free WI-FI, refreshments, books and souvenirs.
