The 306th Bombardment Group Museum is a heartfelt memorial at Thurleigh, near Bedford, dedicated to the USAAF’s 306th Bomb Group, which was based at RAF Thurleigh from 1942-1945 as part of the Eighth Air Force. Housed in a renovated WWII small arms ammunition store and accessed via the Bedford Autodrome site, the museum uses displays, photographs and authentic artefacts to recreate life on the airfield during the war years.
There’s a stone memorial outside honouring all those who served and sacrificed. The museum is open on Sundays from April to October (10-16:00), free admission. Outside of those hours, visits can also be by appointment.
