MARLIPINS MUSEUM

High Street, Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex, BN43 5DA

Step inside Marlipins Museum, housed in a striking Norman building dating from the late 12th to early-13th century, making it one of the oldest secular structures in Sussex. Located on the High Street in Shoreham-by-Sea, the museum’s chequerboard façade of limestone and flint stands out.

Inside, permanent displays trace Shoreham’s maritime past through shipwreck artefacts, model ships, and maritime tools; the archaeology gallery takes you from prehistoric flint mines to more recent local discoveries. Changing exhibitions show local art, old photographs of Shoreham, the airport’s early days, and the town’s silent film era. With access from May to October (Thurs-Sun, 11am-3pm), free entry, guide-dog access, and a warm welcome from volunteers, it’s a compact but richly atmospheric stop for history lovers, families, or visitors walking Shoreham High Street.
