WEST HIGHLAND MUSEUM

Cameron Square, Fort William, Highlands, Scotland, PH33 6AJ

The West Highland Museum is situated at Cameron Square in Fort William’s High Street, just an 8-minute walk from the bus and rail stations, with Viewforth public car park only 2 minutes away.

Founded in 1922 by Victor Hodgson and local enthusiasts, it is one of the oldest museums in the Highlands, originally lacking a collection or building. Hodgson devoted years to studying the history and archaeology of the Western Highlands.

By 1925, after several exhibitions and significant collections, the Museum launched a fundraising appeal and purchased its current building, formerly a British Linen Bank, in 1926. Descendants of Hodgson remain involved with the Museum today.

Opening Hours - Monday - Friday 10 am - 4 pm Saturday 10.30 am - 4 pm.
