Branston, Burton-upon-Trent - Access off A38 south of Branston / Burton

A 40-acre lake used by junior wildlife group, model boaters and anglers. Wide variety of bird life. Footpath around lake to woodland, wildflower meadow, children's play facilities, picnic area and information centre. An educational and recreational visitor centre in Newchapel, one of the oldest villages in North Staffordshire, the famous engineer and canal builder, James Brindley is buried here. The Centre has a planetarium, observatory, alternative energy displays and a large conservation area. New solar telescope now enables visitors to observe the Sun's incredible surface in the daytime. The Centre caters for all ages and has wheelchair access. Guided tours and slide shows give a better insight into the many themes portrayed especially to school parties, local societies and interest groups. Families can take advantage of pleasant picnic areas around the site.
