Beautiful Llangollen, sitting amongst the Welsh hills is a main gateway into North Wales, particularly for those who live in the North Midlands. The market town is a popular stop-over and resting point for tourists on four wheels and two.
Much more than a resting point Llangollen stands on the stunning River Dee. The river is wide and moves quickly, creating white water rapids in places, attractive for canoeing and kayaking. The town is also connected by the Llangollen Canal, which is part of the Shropshire Union System, and for rail lovers there is the preserved Llangollen Railway operating a mixture of steam and diesel locomotives.
The town is busy and very charming with tea shops, bistros, gift shops and galleries and plenty of good places to stay, it is a favourite holiday destination. Mountains, rivers and wild valleys are on its doorstep for walkers and cyclists. Llangollen also hosts a wide range of music festivals, parades, arts extravaganzas and novelty acts which are held throughout the tourist season.
