Dominated by its fantastic castle, and lying on the Menai Straits with the Isle of Anglesey on its doorstep, is the Royal County town of Caernarfon, surely a visit here has to take in this magnificent fortress. The castle is one of the best examples of its kind in Europe and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The town itself has a pretty centre, with open market place and painted buildings. A major tourist spot for visitors there are specialist shops displaying fine Welsh crafts, tea rooms and cafes, traditional Welsh pubs, fine restaurants and places to stay. Welsh language and traditions are all around you and it is a pleasant experience soaking up the Celtic atmosphere that you can find here.
Caernarfon has its own small harbour and award winning beach. If you want to go wider afield, take a ride on the impressive steam locomotives up into the Snowdonia National park courtesy of the Welsh Highland Railway.

Recently awarded Restaurant of the Year by Taste of Wales, it is not difficult to see why. The emphasis is on serious cooking, using nothing but the best of the local produce, but without becoming carried away on flights of fancy and culinary ego rides. The word ‘honest’ has been used on numerous occasions to describe Lynda Kettle’s cooking.
