Great Orme Tramway

The Great Orme Tramway! It's the first place you should visit when you come to Llandudno, 'Queen of the Welsh Resorts'. The tramway is actually a funicular railway - a system where two tramcars are moved up and down hill by cable. As one comes down the Great Orme it helps to pull the other one up using a system of counterbalanced weights. It's one of only two tramways in Europe which operate on public streets. It operates from March to October, and averages 5,000 trips per year, transporting 120,000 passengers. View to a thrill. As the tramway takes you up the Great Orme you will find yourself enjoying a thrilling view of one of Britain's finest Victorian seaside towns. Llandudno's long crescent promenade, wide shopping streets, sweeping sands and wealth of family attractions make it a perfect destination for a short holiday, weekend break or day trip.

Majestic Snowdon dominates the glorious, ancient landscape of North Wales. At 3,560ft (1085m) it is a true mountain and a place of legend - said to be the burial place of the giant ogre Rhita, vanquished by King Arthur. Some believe that Arthur’s knights still sleep beneath. Since 1896, the Snowdon Mountain Railway has been making it easy to claim this mountain peak as one of your lifetime achievements. In a tremendously ambitious feat of engineering, and uniquely in Britain, a rack and pinion railway was built which rises to within 66ft of the summit of the highest mountain in England and Wales.
