Accommodation for families, business travel or romantic getaways
This beautiful old-world town in Monmouthshire has steep medieval streets, and lies on the banks of the River Wye which forms the border with England.
During the 19th century it was an important regional port but for many centuries before that had been a fortified town.
Built on a rock outcrop overlooking the river stands the town's now-ruined Norman castle, the first one erected in Wales. Henry Marten, the man who signed King Charles 1’s death warrant,
was imprisoned in the castle and died there in 1680.
