Flint is
situated on the
estuary of the
river Dee, and
is home to the
first castle to
be built by
Edward I as he
advanced into
Wales in the
thirteenth
century. The
castle is also
of note as it is
where Richard II
was handed over
to his enemy
Henry
Bollingbrooke in
1399 after
returning from
Ireland - a
scene depicted
by Shakespeare's
play "Richard
II".
