A one-time
coaching town of some importance, Hatherleigh
is packed with character.
It has a weekly outdoor market and a pub that
brews its own beer.
A moorland monument acts as a reminder of the
courage of Lieutenant Colonel Morris, a rare
survivor of the Charge of the Light Brigade.
Each November local folk stage a torchlight
carnival in which flaming barrels of tar are
dragged through the streets. |
