Situated on the western edge of Salisbury Plain, Westbury is overlooked by Britain's oldest white horse figure etched into a nearby hillside. Beyond it is the huge Iron Age hill fort known as Bratton Castle. The town once had an important woollen industry and old mills and weavers' cottages can still be seen.

Near Bratton Castle is the Ethandun Memorial, a sarson stone marking a battle in 878AD between King Alfred and the Danish invader Guthrum. Alfred was the eventual victor.

Very comfortably furnished and well equipped it provides a relaxing base from which to explore the many attractions of this lovely area. Longleat Stourhead Lacock Abbey and village Wilton House Bowood Bradford-on-Avon and the historic cities of Bath and Salisbury are all within an easy drive. There is around 200 geocaches in the area. Golf riding tennis and an indoor swimming pool nearby. Pub serving food 1/4 mile post office/stores 1 mile.
