Places to eat & drink in East Grinstead.

Dating back to the early 13th century, with its half-timbered buildings and a market charter, this lively West Sussex town typifies many of the places in this part of the world. Half-timbered Tudor buildings dominate the main street and the Church of St. Swithin, dating back to the 18th century contains at least eight bells, and has the largest peel in Sussex.

We cannot give a full list of all available food outlets but below is a small selection of those available in East Grinstead or surrounding areas.

Gravetye Manor

Vowels Lane, East Grinstead, RH19 4LJ

There are places where even the mention of their name induces a sigh of contentment as the eyes mist over with the recollections, and so it is with Gravetye, after all even the name itself is evocative, like a place from a Dornford Yates novel. These thoughts are sparked by a combination of the setting, which is idyllic, the cooking, which is memorable, the wine list, which is an evening’s education, and the interior of the manor which is exactly what one dreams about but never sees completely in reality. It is not that the cuisine is exotic, there is no major departure from the truly classic dishes; it is just that everything is done so well. A place to go at any time, but should the soul be bruised or the ego battered, make your reservation now.
