New Romney Self Catering Cottages, Lodges, Apartments & More
Accommodation for families, business travel or romantic getaways
Unofficial capital of Romney Marsh, it was one of the original Cinque ports. During the Middle Ages it prospered until the Great Storm of 1287 moved the mouth of the River Rother, on which it stood, many miles to the west. New Romney's harbour was devastated and shingles and mud flooded the town.
It is a stop on the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch steam railway. Built in the 1920s as a tourist attraction, the railway’s 14 miles of track leads to the coast on a 15-inch-gauge line. The town is the gateway to Romney Marsh, an area of open skies, marshes, twisting lanes, medieval churches and picturesque villages.
