Places to eat in Maldon.

Hoseasons Banner

A fascinating port on the Blackwater estuary, Maldon sits proudly on a hilltop and is the home port of the world's largest fleet of fully rigged Thames sailing barges. It also has the only triangular church tower in the country. In 991 an Anglo-Danish army was defeated by Vikings at the famous Battle of Maldon.

Several sons of Maldon helped to change the world – it was the birthplace of George Washington's ancestors and of Horatio Gates, the American who forced the surrender of the British at the Battle of the Saratoga in 1777.

An important attraction at Maldon is the Combined Military Services Museum, which has significant collections of British military artifacts.

The town is still famous for sea-salt which has been produced since Roman times. See www.maldonsalt.co.uk  for more information.
