This famous Anglo-Saxon town within the meadows
of the River Ouse, was partly destroyed by a fire in the 17th century,
losing its role of "county town" to Aylesbury. With a 13th century Chantry
chapel and an old jail, built to look like a castle, Charles 1 used Castle
House to hold war councils, and Stowe House is now a public school. Stowe
House is surrounded by landscaped gardens owned by the National Trust, and
for 10 years "Capability" Brown performed the duties of head gardener.

The nearby town of Olney is famous for antique shops, the annual pancake race and the William Cowper Museum. Ekeney House is surrounded by breathtaking views and is the ideal base for a relaxing tranquil break away from the stresses of everyday life and for walking and nature enthusiasts.
