Picturesque and scenic,
Luccombe village and its pretty bay have long been
popular with visitors. Like so many resorts on the
Isle of Wight, it has a ‘chine’, a dramatic gully
that cuts through the local cliff face and runs
down to the ocean below. The word ‘chine’ comes
probably comes the Saxon word ‘cinan’, meaning
gap. |
