There are places where even the mention of their
name induces a sigh of contentment as the eyes
mist over with the recollections, and so it is
with Gravetye, after all even the name itself is
evocative, like a place from a Dornford Yates
novel. These thoughts are sparked by a
combination of the setting, which is idyllic,
the cooking, which is memorable, the wine list,
which is an evening’s education, and the
interior of the manor which is exactly what one
dreams about but never sees completely in
reality. It is not that the cuisine is exotic,
there is no major departure from the truly
classic dishes; it is just that everything is
done so well. A place to go at any time, but
