A town and harbour on the
Forth, just west of the Rail Bridge, it owes its
existence to a natural deep channel which made it
ideal as a base for warships in the early 20th
century.
As the town was being planned from scratch, it was
laid out as a 'garden city' to house the workers
at the dockyard and naval base.
The closure of the dockyard in the 1990s was a
blow but Rosyth is now an important ferry port
linking Scotland with Europe.
