Thanks to water mills located
along the banks of the powerful River Esk,
Penicuick was for centuries the main papermaking
town in Scotland. It lies on the southern slopes
of the magnificent Pentland Hills.
The façade is all that is left
of 18th century Penicuick House, which had to be
rebuilt in the 19th century after its predecessor
was destroyed in a fire.
