A small, pleasant resort,
Portsoy is a one-time fishing port near Banff
which stages an annual festival involving wooden
sailing boats and other small craft. Local red and
green Portsoy marble was quarried close to the
restored 17th century harbour and was even used in
the building of the opulent Palace of Versailles.
A coastal walks lead to the
beautiful beach of Sandend Bay and the ruins of
16th century Boyne Castle.
