June & Sept closes 5.30pm.

Group evening visits by arrangement. Hawick's oldest building is a fortified tower of the 1550's enveloped inside an 18th Century town house. Now extensively refurbished, Drumlanrig's Tower provides an exciting new visitor attraction to the town centre. Displays recreate the history of Hawick during medieval times to the development of the town from the industrial revolution to present day. Imaginative methods of interpretation include audiovisuals, interactive touch screens, aromas of the past, costumed figures and period room settings. An attractive Tourist Information Centre and reception sells a wide range of souvenirs, postcards and books.

5km north of Jedburgh off A68 A great day out for everyone, whatever the weather! Commended by the Scottish Tourist Board, there's something for everyone at Harestanes. Enjoy a countryside walk, try the traditional puzzles in the Games Room or relax in the children's play area with a picnic. There are exhibitions, events, gifts and a tea-room too.

Walks & Viewpoints

Eildon Hills
 

From Melrose, Borders take the B6359 road and turn left at Eildon Walk signpost, cross bridge and follow footpath for panoramic walk. For Scott's View (named after Sir Walter Scott who stopped here many times for the view) take the B6356 off the A68 by Melrose. This road also leads to Dryburgh Abbey

The rolling hills and beautiful valley of the Border forests allow for a wide range of pursuits. From quiet walks to the mountain bike trails.

National Trust for Scotland. 300ft high cliffs that are home to colonies of birds that nest on the ledges from April to August. A National Nature Reserve.

Entrance Charge £2.50 per car

The Country Park is open all year during daylight hours and provides an excellent location for a family day out.


There is something for everyone at the Park; walks by lakeside, river and through the grounds of the Hirsel Estate.

 


Within the Estate grounds is the Homestead complex incorporating the Museum and Arts and Crafts Centre, the Cottage Tearoom and the Crafthouse Gallery. There is also a small children's play area and picnic site. The Tearoom is open most of the year to serve visitors with quality cooked foods, now including Sunday lunches and delicious home baking.
