There once was a time when Italian waiters
strutted with enormous pepper mills and
straw-wrapped Chianti bottles held candles over
gingham tablecloths. They called it the
trattoria, the tavola calda, and it's almost
gone now. Overtaken by a wave of stylish modern
white-walled restaurants or chains of pizza and
pasta houses. But here is the trattoria as we
knew and loved it, in all its kitschy glory. All
our old favourites appear on the long menu.

A traditional style English restaurant within a
grade II listed conservatory. It was built over
one hundred and fifty years ago, looking out
over the extensive grounds of the hotel. Our
menu has something for everyone, dishes include:
lamb tenderloin coated in grain mustard upon a
gratan potato, and grilled swordfish on a bed of
watercress. Service is always friendly and
relaxed, and we are more than happy to cater for

Chez Jules is settling in and some changes have
already been made to this former fire station. A
new space upstairs has been included, complete
with its own bar, although the overall
bistro-style decor has changed very little. The
menu is changed daily with about six starters
and the same number of mains. Chez Jules has
established itself as a firm favourite with the
local fraternity, which may not be entirely
disassociated from the easy prices.
