blank image During the Middle Ages the dead were brought in wicker biers to Grinton from all parts of the dale to be laid to rest at its large church known as the ‘Cathedral of the Dales’.

Nearby stands the ruin of 12th century Marrick Priory, a former house for Benedictine nuns.
