Built for purpose as a monastery back in 1145, Newburgh is a superb stately home set within 40-acres of picture perfect grounds, lakes and ancient woodland. A predominantly 17th and 18th century house with wonderful period rooms is now home to the Wombwell family. Beautiful grounds surround the house with features that include a water garden, a walled garden, topiary yews and woodland walks. It is also reputed to be the burial place of Oliver Cromwell, whose remains are hidden within the roof. The house, grounds and tea rooms are open on Wednesdays and Sundays during April, May and June and are available for weddings and receptions throughout the year.

Built in 1759, and restored from dereliction in 1994, Helmsley Walled Garden is five tranquil acres of flowers, fruit and vegetables. Double Herbaceous borders are blooming from June onwards: feature gardens include the new Clematis Garden with over 150 different varieties, the Physic Garden and the Edible Flower Garden. Fruit trees clothe the walls and the produce from them and the vegetable garden provide produce for the Vinehouse Cafe. Enjoy this beautiful garden in the North York Moors. The Plant Centre stocks many of the plants seen in the Garden and horticultural staff can help with any questions. The Garden is fully accessible for wheelchair users. Dogs are welcome.

The Garden is open from 1st April to the 31st October from 10am to 5pm.
