Festival is Britain's premier festival of early
music. Established in 1977, the Festival takes
place within the myriad of medieval churches,
guildhalls and historic houses that make up the
ancient city of York. Guest artists over the
past few years have included the Gabrieli
Consort of Music, the Tallis Scholars, the
Consort of Musicke, the King's Consort and a
whole host of internationally acclaimed artists.
The Festival takes place in early July each
summer and makes a particular feature of the
architecture of the city as well as offering
early music concerts of the highest possible
quality. Fortunately for us - we welcome members
of the audience from all over the world and we
have the great benefit of working alongside BBC
Radio 3 who record many of the Festival concerts
each year for broadcast throughout Europe and
via the World Service.
