Enclosed by a
winding loop of
the River Coquet
just one mile
from its mouth,
Warkworth offers
excellent river
and sea fishing,
as well as miles
of golden sandy
beach backed by
extensive dunes.
Warkworth castle
overlooks the
town and is one
of the most
splendid ruins
of its type in
Northumberland,
unspoilt by
later day
restorations.
Originally built
in 1139 it was
much extended in
the thirteenth
and fourteenth
centuries and
much of its
structure
remains today. |
