The oldest building (pictured) dates from 1659.Situated on Skeldergate, the ancient Roman waterfront that now leads from the city walls across the river to the historic city. Middlethorpe Hall is a William III country house close to the city set in 20 acres of gardens and parkland. Built in 1699, it was once the home of the famous diarist, Lady Mary Wortley Montagu.
