16th-century thatched cottage.


Situated just upstream from Flatford Mill, the cottage houses an exhibition on John Constable, several of whose paintings famously depict this property.


There is a tea-garden, shop, information centre and boat hire, and access is possible on foot to Trust land in the beautiful Dedham Vale.

Coastal lowland heath, rich in wildlife.


Within an A.O.N.B and offering many excellent walks, the area is a remnant of the once extensive Sandlings heaths, with open tracts of heather and gorse, shady woods, sandy cliffs and beach.


It is an important nature conservation area and home to scarce species like the nightjar, Dartford warbler and the ant-lion.

A reconstruction of the actual Anglo-Saxon Village (c.420-650AD) on the site where the remains of the original village were found. The Country Park is a 52 hectare site complete with car park, play area, visitor centre, shop and cafe.

Internationally important nature reserve, with a fascinating 20th-century military history.


The largest shingle spit with vegetation in Europe, the Reserve contains a variety of habitats including shingle, salt marsh, mudflat, brackish lagoons and grazing marsh.


It provides an important location for breeding and passage birds as well as for the shingle flora, including a large number of nationally rare species.

The Ness was a secret military test site from 1913 until the mid-1980s. Visitors follow a 5˝ml route, which can be walked in total or in part (the full walk involves walking on shingle). Other walks (approx. 3mls) are open seasonally.
