With a population exceeding
2,000 people, Lowdham is an historic village
between Southwell and the City of Nottingham. The
local parish church dates to the 14th century
while nearby is a castle mound. The frame knitting
industry brought prosperity to the town in the
19th century and Lowdham Mill lies to the north
east. In the 1940s excavations unearthed a
sizeable medieval motte surrounded by a ditch
where Roman and medieval pottery was discovered.
