Places to eat & drink in Ipswich.

Dating back to the 7th-8th centuries, Ipswich lies at the head of an estuary on the River Orwell and grew from its association with the sea. Docks, quays and modern state-of the-art marinas line the estuary close to the centre, in places helping to give it that continental feel. The Ipswich Museum and Gallery houses some of the important finds in the area which demonstrate its past history through the Romans, Saxons and Vikings including jewellery and weapons etc.
Well known people, artists and writers have left their mark in Ipswich - Geoffrey Chaucer, Thomas Gainsborough, Charles Dickens and Lord Nelson to name but a few and there are many excellent examples of timber framed and ancient buildings dotted around the county town to demonstrate its rich heritage.
Now a mixture of old and superbly modern it has its own cultural identity with some excellent theatres, museums and art galleries, hosting many arts and fringe festivals. Christchurch Mansion is also well worth a day out with its stunning Tudor house in its own landscaped grounds.
There are all the amenities you would need on your visit with hotels, restaurants and bars and a comfortable pedestrianised town centre, or for a more tranquil day with a difference, cruise down the lovely River Orwell on one of the famous Thames Sailing Barges.

We cannot give a full list of all available food outlets but below is a small selection of those available in Ipswich or surrounding areas.
