The Ridgeway, an 87-mile route dating back to prehistoric times passes through ancient downs, hidden valleys and shaded woodlands.




Enjoy the natural beauty of the North Wessex Downs with plenty of archaeological treasures to discover en route for fans of English history.

You maybe surprised to learn that despite its geographical location, The Ridgeway is quite a remote trail.

Keep an eye out for views of the Thames Valley and on clear days, the hills beyond Oxford. You should also be able to see the Chiltern Hills, which you will eventually pass through should you decide to complete the route.

The famous River Thames will keep you company for a stretch, before you turn eastward and head in to the stunning Chilterns, known for its spectacular woodlands.

After passing the Grand Union Canal and Tring Rail Station, the end of the trail is in sight. Beacon Hill, part of the National Trust property of Ashridge, walkers making it this far a rewarded with fantastic views of the Vale of Aylesbury.
