Cam Sailing Club

Clayhythe Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire
Tel: 01223 440 462
E-mail: lynne.easy@btinternet.com    Web: www.cam.net.uk/home/sail

If you've seen the Cam in Cambridge, you might find it hard to believe there's a sailing club on such a narrow river. It's a little wider where we sail and we have a good stretch of water that's clear of trees. The Cam Sailing Club is a friendly, family club, but with a large racing programme. Although there's regular racing, many members just sail without racing. The grounds, mostly lawns along the banks of the Cam, are an excellent place to relax with a family on a summer's day.

There are many opportunities to improve your sailing skills, either crewing for a more experienced helm or by purchasing your own boat. Advice on boat handling, rigging and tuning, repairs and maintenance is readily available from most members. The club owns a fleet of 7 Toppers, a single-handed boat ideal for training and junior racing. There are also 2 GP14s which are used extensively for teaching purposes. The Training lake is much smaller allowing youngsters and those learning to try their skills on a much easier stretch of water, giving confidence. Water depth is sufficient for a Flying Fifteen, over the entire lake. There are three slipways, including one for larger boats with a fixed landing stage.
