Blackpool North Shore
Golf Club is a private members club set in 98
acres, situated 500 yards from the North
Promenade and 2 miles from the town centre of
Blackpool. The club welcomes both individual
visitors and parties. The course is par 71 and
over 6431 yards. It is a links type course with
rolling fairways and good-sized greens.
Currently it is the venue
for the PGA Lancashire Open Championship. Christy
O’Connor Snr. held the course record for many
years but David Shacklady holds the current record
with 62. Its traditional and well-furnished Club
House offers magnificent views of the Lake
District, the Forest of Bowland, Bleasdale Fells
and the Pennine Hill range. The Club House
includes a Restaurant and provides both bar
snacks and A la Carte dining.

Gorstyhill is an
independent privately owned golf course near
Crewe in Cheshire, run primarily as a members

Set in 200 acres of Cheshire countryside,
Aldersey Green Golf Club has a golf course that
is envied by many but rivalled by few in terms of
sheer enjoyment to play.
Many of the fairways are tree-lined and narrow
making accuracy from the tee absolutely pivotal to
scoring well. The course is also home to 14 lakes
so by warned that any stray shots can, and on many
occasions will be punished. Packing a few extra
balls in your bag might be a good idea!
The course is made up of 18 holes
and covers an area of 5,915 yards in total.
Many professionals who have played
this challenging course have stated that the first five
holes are amongst the hardest opening holes to any golf
course they have played. The jewel in the crown must be
the picturesque par 3 16th measuring a total of 181
yards. There are a total of seven holes containing water
hazards with the par 4 11th having a water hazard
running from the tee to the green splitting the fairway
in two.

Founded in 1906 and opened on its present site
in 1969 Alston Moor Golf Club is a 10 hole (18
tee) parkland and fell course measuring 5456
yards. The course is well maintained and has the
distinction of not having to use winter greens
as a result. Golfers are offered wonderful views
of the North Pennines and Tyne Valley, all the
more so due to the height of the course which
drops about 2000 feet to its lowest point. The
club is situated about two miles from Alston and
is in the process of updating to 18 holes.
Handicap certificates are not required for
visiting golfers.
Appleby Golf Club is a moorland course with a
delightful variety of holes and outstanding
views of the Lake District Mountains or Pennine
hills from all parts of the course. It is
renowned for the excellence of its greens. Not
too long for the average player many holes are
more challenging than at first appearance. The
clubhouse, extended in 1999, has a large and
comfortable lounge with superb views. Excellent
meals are provided by the Chef/Steward. The club
attracts many visitors who are made most
welcome. Many return frequently to enjoy the
friendliness, scenery, birdsong and splendid
golf course.
Founded in 1908 Carlisle Golf Club has an 18
hole 6263 yard parkland course with a par of 71.
The course is of an excellent standard all
through the year and is not overly long, yet
provides a challenge for golfers at every
handicap level, thanks to some strategic dog
legs and some memorable par 3's. Also with
excellent clubhouse and restaurant facilities
Carlisle Golf Club is well worth a visit.
The course is laid out
on fell land on the east side of Cockermouth and
is easily accessible from the A66 trans-Pennine
road. At 5410 yards it is not regarded as long.
Nevertheless, it gives a stern test to the
discerning golfer.
A positive feature of the
course is the panorama of fine views from
various points. Providing a warm welcome to
visitors old and new. Visitors are welcome on an
on-going basis. Weekdays, tee reservations are
available at most times for parties of 10 or
more, whilst on Saturdays the first tee can be
reserved between 11am and 12.30pm, again for
parties of 10 or more golfers.
Founded in 1891
Kendal Golf Club is an 18 hole 5737 yard par 70
parkland course located around the summit of
Kendal Fell.
The club has an
excellent reputation for the fine standard of
its greens and fairways, set over woodland,
providing a rich habitat for wildlife, the
variety of each hole provides golfing challenges
for players of all standards.
The clubhouse has comprehensive changing
facilities for visiting golfers with a well
stocked bar and excellent, reasonably priced,

Established in 1890 Penrith Golf Club is an 18
hole 6026 yard course. Mostly flat with the
exception of one hole, the course provides superb
views across the lakes.
The course is well balanced, always changing in
direction and demanding good length from the tee.
It is set in rolling moorland with occasional pine
trees scattered throughout. Facilities include
driving range and all day catering. Buggies are
available.
Established in 1891
Windermere Golf Club has an 18 hole 5132 yard
course with a par of 67.
Set in a delightful area of the Lake District
National Park, about one and a half miles east
of Bowness, the course provides some superb
views of the mountains surrounding the lakes.
The course is very enjoyable, although short it
is slightly hilly and the fairways are
relatively narrow providing a sporting round of
golf.
Likewise the clubhouse
facilities and catering is also excellent,
perfect as a holiday destination. All visitors
are assured of a warm and friendly welcome. Once
visitors have played Windermere GC they return
time after time to enjoy the splendid golf
course.
Designed by James Braid in 1893 Workington Golf
Club has an undulating meadowland course with
many natural hazards including streams and
trees. An 18 hole measuring 6252 yards the
course also provides good views of the Solway
Firth and lakes hills. A wide selection of meals
are available at the clubhouse, and the club
itself is located approximately two miles south
east of Workingham.

Golf has been played at Castletown since 1892.
The course in its present form was laid out by
golfing legend Mackenzie Ross in the late 20s
and early 30s and provides some of the purest
golf links anywhere in the British Isles. A
championship course presenting some real
challenges at over 6700 yards off the
championship tees, there are some carries to
frighten the best, yet off the yellow society
tees there is scope for the club golfer to
perform as well. The club has held a number of
classic championships, the most notable being
the PGA cup matches against the USA in 1979.
For a good day's golfing, right on the edge of
the Island's capital, Douglas Golf Club at
Pulrose Park is ideal. A 'pay and play' golf
course, founded in 1891 and maintained in first
class condition, Douglas Golf Club offers
exceptional value for money.
A round of golf at King Edward Bay is bound to
be memorable. The course is superbly maintained
and affords some of the most superb views in the
Island, situated in an elevated position in
Onchan, on the outskirts of the Island's
capital, Douglas. The springy mountain turf is
quite exceptional and there are some most
impressive holes, including the short 14th, a
par three with a carry over the heather and a
magnificent view of Douglas Bay in the
background. Indeed, everywhere on the course the
golfer is treated to breathtaking landscapes and
coastal views.
Laid out on undulating heathland Peel golf
course lies just to the east of Peel. The course
is extremely varied, with many holes having been
cut through pine tree plantations, and offers a
complete range of natural hazards: stream, turf
banks and gorse.
Founded in 1895 Rowany golf club is a superbly
maintained course with a newly installed
irrigation system. There are some excellent
views over the Irish Sea and with its location
in the delightful town of Port Erin, for a
change of pace, the course can be reached by
vintage steam train from Douglas.
Formed in 1903 as a private company, the golf
club has occupied its present location since
1936 when the nine-hole course, designed by 1920
British Open Champion George Duncan, came into
play. This is the only nine-hole course in the
Island but whatever your handicap, its design
presents a number of interesting challenges,
with the tremendous bonus of some truly
spectacular views of the two bays of Port St
Mary and its bustling harbour.
An interesting course, established over 100
years ago, with some spectacular views and a
superb range of amenities. Nigel Mansell was the
ex club champion at Ramsey Golf Club - an
immensely enjoyable course which, although
demanding, is not too hilly and so makes a
superb day's golfing of two rounds in the north
of the Island.
Clitheroe Golf
Club is situated in the heart of the
Ribble Valley having a long history the
course has been on its present site since
1932.
A course of
considerable prestige, regarded as one of
the top 10 in Lancashire.
A North West
regional qualifying venue for the Open
Championship from 2010 with 18 holes 6530
yards S.S.S. 71.

This largely hidden
green oasis retains its heritage of small copses
