Surrounded by Anglesey's
fertile pastures and abundant wildlife, Llyn
Alaw is one of the most productive lakes in
Wales.
Corixa, shrimp and rudd fry are the
stable diet of the wild grown brown and rainbow
trout which are regularly taken.
An annual stocking of over 16,000 trout ensures
consistent sport.
At 777 acres, Alaw is the
largest lake on the island of Anglesey, having
large areas of shallow water, none of which is
over 30 feet deep and renowned over the years
for its wild Brown Trout inhabitants. The
incredible amount of weed growth results in the
excellent feeding available to the fish.
Buzzers, Olives and Sedges are among the top
hatches. Special boat and lakeside parking
facilities are available for disabled anglers.
Bank permits can be purchased from a machine,
while season and boat tickets are available from
the on-site Information & Visitors Centre.
Fishing accessories are also now available from
the Visitor Centre.

Set in 8 acres of peaceful,

countryside, is
a one and
three-quarter acre coarse fishing lake.
Home to several types
of carp (including common, ghost and mirror).
The average weight for the carp is around 8lbs,
several larger doubles up to 15lbs have been
taken. The lake also boasts bream and tench up
to 5lbs. Self-catering
accommodation is available.
Nestling in the beautiful and tranquil Welsh
Countryside at Moelfre - just outside Abergele,
North Wales - this is an excellent
value-for-money Troutmaster Fishery that is
extremely convenient and also easy to fish.
Created many years ago, Tan-y-Mynydd is a fly
fishing haven. The five lakes, which abound with
aquatic life, will test the best angler - and
yet give good fun and sport to the novice - be
they young or old! All the lakes are fully
stocked with extremely fit, fighting Rainbows
from the main supplier at Llyn Brenig. Ranging
from 2lb to 15lb, these are fish that bankside
tales are truly made of! One of the lakes is
exclusively stocked with Brown Trout, which will
no doubt prove popular with the traditionalist
angler (light tackle recommended). Each lake
tends to fish differently but small Nymphs,
Emergers and Buzzers should do the trick. The
smaller fly seems to be the key here.
Treetops consists of ten lakes, set in the
foothills of Wales, yet only twenty minutes from
Chester. They have the most spectacular views
from a fishery anywhere in the country with
eight lakes tiering down the hillside with two
more lakes in the valley. My favourites being
Twin Islands and Brithyll Mawr (in English Big
Trout). Eight of the lakes are stocked with
rainbow trout up to 161bs. The tenth lake, the "LLYN",
is stocked with brown trout only.
Hhave the services of an APGAI member who teaches
fly casting, fly tying and entomclogy. There is
a coffee shop and tackle shop overlooking one of
the lakes. Tution available
please ring to arrang, 8 lakes stocked with
rainbow trouts.
Officially opened in December of 1976, Llyn
Brenig, at 920 acres, is one of the largest
lakes (or llynnoedd) in Wales, consisting of
over ten miles of heather-laden banks to fish
from. Brenig is almost 1,235 feet up on the
Denbigh Moors so can be a might bleak early
season. Its waters are nearly 150 feet deep near
the water tower. Dry flies account for over 80%
of the fish caught during any one season as the
trout are forced to look upwards for terrestials
due to the lack of food below the surface, Daddy
Long Legs and Heather Flies being favourites.
The World Fly Fishing Championships and regular
Home Fly-fishing Internationals have helped to
establish an international reputation for the
fishery, a place where anglers can enjoy fishing
heather and spruce lined shores for hard
fighting trout, some of them spawned in streams
around the Lake. Llyn Brenig is one of the few
remaining fisheries preserved exclusively for
fly-fishing.
Fishing the Lakes and rivers of North Wales.
The fishing in North Wales must be some
of the finest in the British Isles, for many of
the rivers and lakes are within the Snowdonia
National Park.
Bodelwyddan Game Anglers are very fortunate to
have limited control of some of these waters;
rivers include the River Conwy with its salmon
and sea trout, the River Cledwen which holds
real wild brown trout - the specialists dream
with rod and fly. Then we have the river Elwy,
which must be one of the best rivers around for
sea trout, or sewin as is it known locally;
night fishing is always the best time for this
quarry, from June onwards given the right amount
of rain fall.Anglers
are reminded you must have E A license which
gives you the right to use a fishing rod and
line, but does not give you the right to fish.
You must always check that you have the permit
to fish that particular water.Bodelwyddan Game Anglers have lakes near
the coast and also a 40 acre lake in the heart
Snowdonia. This is reached via a forest road
which takes you through beautiful scenery to the
water's edge, where you can practice your skills
with fly, worm, or spinner for brown trout also
Artic Char. Hafod Pools, contain coarse fish and
rainbow trout, used mainly by less able anglers
who may fish with worm or fly.As we come much nearer to the North Wales
coast we have Tai Lake, 3 acres, which holds
rainbow and brown trout to around 8lbs. This a
very comfortable lake, with various seating
areas around the edge; it is well sheltered with
trees, and has a number of wildfowl for company.
A fisherman's hut contains a visitors book which
anglers are asked to sign also parking at
lakeside for the disabled anglers.
