Lying in the shadow of the
world’s first iron suspension bridge, Telford’s
Menai Bridge lies in the small town of the same
name. The 14th Century church of St Tysilio on
Church Island can be reached from the town along a
causeway that was built by Flemish refugees during
World War One. Nearby, at Pili Palas, visitors can
examine both native and exotic butterflies. There
is a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants
in Menai Bridge.
