Sometimes referred to as the
Venice of the Midlands, Stourport is unique in
that it was built to fit the needs of the
so-called canal age in the 18th century. It has
successfully retained a strong waterside flavour
and once-vibrant basins, locks and warehouses now
provide a tranquil backdrop for a host of elegant
Georgian buildings. Here the rivers Severn and
Stour join up and form a connection with the
Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal which is
itself linked to the Trent and Mersey Canal. |
