Oswestry is a bustling market
town
nestling on the Welsh
border with an individual character formed over
centuries. Narrow passageways link streets whose
names conjure up images of the past: English
Walls, Welsh Walls, The Bailey and The Horsemarket. Built around the
well of St Oswald, a crucified Saxon King of
Northumbria, it only joined the ranks of English
towns in the 16th century.
While the town's
thriving weekly market dates back to 1190, and
a collection of over 100 colourful stalls
offer everything from fresh farm produce to
fashion. There are some unbeatable bargains
for the discerning shopper. |
