Welcome to The Poppy House, situated within the town of Bishop’s Castle, not far from Ludlow, in the heart of the beautiful Shropshire hills.

The Café & Restaurant are fully licensed and are open from 10am to 5pm every day except Monday and Tuesday.

The Restaurant is also open on Friday and Saturday evenings from 6.00pm when booking is advisable. Our opening hours may vary during the winter so it's best to call and check.

We have a lovely south facing courtyard for alfresco dining and a real coal fire in winter. Our emphasis is on good food and wine. Our food is imaginatively prepared using the best of local, seasonal produce and herbs from the garden. Our menu changes daily and all of our meals are freshly made on the premises either by our Head Chef, Albert or by Steve.

BOARS HEAD

Church Street, Bishop's Castle, Shropshire, SY9 5AE
Tel: 01588 638521
E-mail: sales@boarsheadhotel.co.uk
Web: www.boarsheadhotel.co.uk

The Boars Head is one of the earliest surviving buildings in Bishop's Castle, which itself is a former borough and a market town of ancient foundation.

The town takes its name from the Castle (of which little remains) built here in Norman times by the Bishops of Hereford who were Lords of the Manor.

Much of the original construction of the Inn remains today. The exposed beams are all genuine and the log fire warms the Bar on a winters evening. The Bar serves a selection of real ales, lagers, wines and spirits.

Accommodation at the Boars Head is in the "Curly Tail" which has previously been used as the Stable Block for 16 horses, a bar and function room, but was converted in 1988 into four motel-style bedrooms. Every room is fully equipped with en-suite bathroom, colour TV, tea and coffee tray and direct dial telephone. Wireless Broadband Facilities are also available at the Inn.

An extensive Menu is served lunch times and evenings with a variety of dishes from the traditional to the exotic served in the Restaurant. The Inn is well known in the area for its Sizzlers - with steak, chicken, Fish, Bacon and sausages - offered on a Sizzling Cast Iron Skillet as well as its All Day Breakfasts (served only during meal service).
