Attractions

General

The biggest attraction of Pembrokeshire is the countryside itself, particularly the coast.

All around there are clean sandy beaches, most safe for bathing.

If you are planning to go to one of the less frequented beaches, check that bathing is safe as there are strong currents in some parts.

Pembrokeshire - famous for sun, sea, & sand

Green Bridge of Wales

All along the coast there are amazing rock formations, a geologists dream.

One of the most impressive must surely be the GREEN BRIDGE OF WALES, a huge natural limestone arch 24 mtrs high and more than 20 mtrs wide.

Erosion by the sea and gradual dissolving of the limestone has eaten away the headland leaving the Bridge and the Elegug Stacks.

Milford Haven itself is the world's deepest natural harbour. The oil industry came here as a result, since even the biggest super tankers can be accommodated. However, with much of the nation's oil coming from the North Sea, the need for the haven's refineries diminished and some have now closed though you still see tankers and the "Irish Ferry" (Pembroke Dock - Rosslare) passing up and down.

The whole waterway is a paradise for boating and watersports enthusiasts. In addition to the spectacular 200 mile stretch of National Park coastline with its countless coves and golden beaches, there is the tranquil wood-fringed Milford Haven Waterway which penetrates 24 miles into the heart of the country.
