Pale Hall
Pale Estate, Llandderfel, Bala, LL23 7PS
Tel: 01678 530285 Fax:

Built in 1870 this is one of the finest
Victorian country houses in Wales. Precise
attention is paid to all the little trimmings,
canapés are a joy and one has the distinct
feeling of being cosseted. Whilst the cuisine is
classic it is not inflexible and little flashes
of rebellion occasionally surface in the best
possible way. A good wine list with house wine.

A Gothic style country house from the 19th
century this well-placed former home to Lord
Birmingham stands guard over the Mawddach estate
and commands superb views over river and

horseradish mash with a brandied pepper cream
sauce could not be overlooked and carries a
combination of flavours, that is delightful. How
seldom nowadays that one sees Baked Alaska, but
there it is, or some would be hard pressed to
miss the opportunity of those Welsh cheeses, St
Davids, Harlech and the delectable Caws Llyn. A
