Cilgerran is a straggling
village 3 miles upstream of St Dogmaels, founded
at the same time as its spectacular Castle by
Roger de Montgomery, one of William the
Conqueror's commanders at the Battle of Hastings.
The magnificent site of the Castle above Cilgerran
gorge has inspired many artists over the years
including JMW Turner and Richard Wilson.
The annual Coracle Races in
August are a major event and well worth a visit.
