The historical development of the area from the 18th century is apparent within the Country Park and at adjacent sites of the remains of the canal and railway. There is a marked Heritage Trail extending 4.5 miles beyond the park. The Templer Way also passes through the park. The main feature of the Park is the 10 acre lake and marsh which is used by a variety of wildfowl over the winter months. The park is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest primarily because of the dragonfly population. Extensive deciduous and coniferous woodland are interspersed with pockets of lowland heath and grassland providing habitats for a range of visiting and resident wildlife. Notable mammal species include roe deer and dormice and otter.
