Mendip Gliding Club is situated near the
spectacular Cheddar Gorge (an area of
Outstanding Natural Beauty) in the heart of the
beautiful West country of England. At an
altitude of 870 feet, the Club has breathtaking
views across the Somerset Levels towards
"mysterious" Glastonbury and over the Bristol
Channel. The Club is about 30 minutes drive to
the cities of Bristol, Bath and
Weston-Super-Mare and close to Wells, the
smallest city in England with its dramatic 14th
Century Cathedral. Mendip Gliding Club operates
at weekends, Thursdays and Bank Holidays with
the occasional Course during the week. The main
ridges face the prevailing south westerly winds
which give excellent slope soaring conditions.
Launching is normally by winch. The Club
welcomes all and aims to provide first class
training and gliding experiences to its members
and visitors using suitable training gliders,
equipment, gliding instructors and facilities.
