Kayaking: Using either inland lochs or sheltered parts of the sea we run sessions adapted to those taking part. Depending on the weather it can be a trip along some of our incredible coastline, exploring cliffs stacks and caves, Or a skills training course following the BCU 1-3 star scheme, Or a games session which develops skills and confidence (and normally involves getting wet..!). More often than not our instructors combine all of these approaches within a session. Whitewaves' policy in order of priority is safety followed by enjoyment. John is a BCU level 3 (sea) coach (formally known as a senior instructor) and has been kayaking for over 25 years, and teaching for 10. Any staff employed are BCU qualified and experienced. Windsurfing: The right kit and the right instruction goes a long way in preventing the frustration experienced by many first timers. We use a dry land simulator and a small loch to help get you going, and we provide full wet-suits, so its not that cold...! It is however definitely wet, and equally exhilarating. Please note Whitewave only caters for beginners windsurfing.
Hillwalking: The Trotternish ridge provides some of the most spectacular fell walking in Britain with its rounded moorland hills carved by a huge craggy cliff with its towering pinnacles and circling ravens. Our favourite walk is the Quiriang which once seen, either on a bright day with its stunning views, or in its mysterious guise with swirling mists, will never be forgotten.  Around the area are masses of other possibilities for walks of varying lengths and degrees of strenuous. To help people wanting to strike out on their own, we can teach the basics of navigation. John has over 30 years hill walking experience, and is a qualified Summer Mountain Leader with the MLTB, any staff are suitably qualified and experienced. Archery and Bikes: Target archery is really enjoyable, and usually becomes highly competitive. We use fairly lightweight trainer bows, but they are still powerful enough. We don't put apples on peoples heads, but you'll be surprised at how accurate your shooting will become with just a short lesson. Go for gold every time.
